You may already have the tool you need

Apple’s Notes and Files apps can scan documents. If you only need a quick scan, that built-in route is worth knowing. Smart Printer App is useful when you also want to prepare and print documents in the same app.

For any scanning method, put the pages on a flat surface with good contrast around the edges. Avoid a shadow from your phone. Small type and faint receipts deserve a closer check than a large heading.

Scan the pages together

  1. Open Scan Document in Smart Printer App and allow camera access.
  2. Capture each page as part of the same scanning session.
  3. Check that the corners include the whole page, then continue with the next one.
  4. Finish the scan and review the resulting document.
  5. Use the export or share option to save the PDF, or continue to printing.

Multi-page scans become an image-based PDF. The app does not turn those images into searchable text through OCR. If selectable text is required, use a dedicated OCR workflow.

Review what the recipient will see

Open the saved PDF, not just the camera preview. Look at the first and last lines of every page. Check small numbers, page order and any handwriting. A document can look tidy at thumbnail size while the details are unreadable.

Give the file a useful name before sending it. “Rental documents, signed” is easier to recognize than a camera timestamp. For sensitive paperwork, check the recipient and sharing destination carefully.

Saving and printing are different steps

Save the scan as a PDF when you need a digital copy. Print it when you need paper. Both start with the same document, so there is no need to scan it twice.

If your goal is a paper copy, inspect the scan before sending it to the printer. A missing corner or blurred account number cannot be repaired by using better paper.
